When the Xbox 360 first came out in 2005, gamers were stuck with component AV cables to get their high definition fix. After a short time, Microsoft released the VGA cable, but gamers will still without a pure digital cable for high definition. That was until Microsoft released the new Xbox 360 console that had an HDMI port, that’s all fine and dandy if you can afford a new console, but what about those who already have an Xbox 360?

For those, Mad Catz has an answer, the HDMI Conversion kit. The kit’s pretty simple in design, you plug the kit into the Xbox 360 in the same port where you would put any other AV cable, and then attach the audio cable and HDMI cord.

Sadly, the kit didn’t do all that much for me. The picture quality on my TV was actually made worse than my standard component cables. The whites were way too strong, and I was forced to manually edit my TV’s brightness so it didn’t look like I was staring at the sun.

Score: 2/10

So, my overall conclusion, can I honestly recommend spending $90 on the Mad Catz HDMI Converter Kit? No way! The only good thing I got out of it was the digital audio cable, and all I did with that was use it with my standard component cables. The rest of the kit went straight back into the box.
