Baldur’s Gate fans already had a lot to be excited about with the impending summer release of the Baldur’s Gate: Extended Edition reboot. New quests, improved graphics, and an enhanced Infinity Engine are all exciting new features. Now, however, some of the initial rumors surrounding the re-release of Bioware’s Dungeons and Dragons epic are being confirmed as well. Both Baldur’s Gate 1 and Baldur’s Gate 2 will be ported to the iPad, with some minor interface adjustments to help ease it into the world of touch controls. That’s not all, though: the game will be released simultaneously to the OSX, allowing Apple desktop gamers in on the action.
Perhaps the biggest news, however, is the revamped multiplayer. PC, OSX, and iPad players will all be able to join in to a cross-platform multiplayer system that erases the boundaries separating users. Even in its prime, connecting multiple parties in Baldur’s Gate was difficult and often times frustrating. Soon, you’ll be able to sit down at your PC while your friends bring their laptop and iPad and drop into a game for some good, old school dragon slaying fun.
The long term plan, however, is to take the series beyond remakes. If the rerelease of the first two titles is successful, Beamdog is hoping it will lead to a Baldur’s Gate 3. I know I’m keeping my finger’s crossed!
