At Sony’s PlayStation 4 reveal event last night, Blizzard announced that it’s bringing Diablo III to PS3 and PS4 “soon”. This announcement comes after years of rumor and speculation about console versions of Diablo III, which has been hinted at in job postings. This marks Blizzard’s first console title in over a decade, the last being Starcraft 64 in 2000.
Diablo III for PS3 and PS4 will maintain the same basic gameplay of the PC version while revamping the interface, controls, and camera system so players can be comfortable trading in their mouse and keyboard for a couch and controller. The four-player online co-op is still present, as well as a new local co-op mode.
The PS3 and PS4 versions of Diablo III will also contain all of the latest updates present in the PC version, including Paragon levels, Monster Power, and PvP Brawling. These improvements have trickled out to the PC version since its release last May.
It’s unknown at this point if or when Diablo III will be coming to other consoles. We have reached out to Blizzard for comment. The PS3 version of Diablo III will be playable at PAX Easy in March, with more information about both the PS3 and PS4 version expected at E3 in June and the recently announced BlizzCon in November.
