Hands On the Xbox One

With the Xbox One hitting shelves on November 22nd, Microsoft is beginning to offer hands on time with their new console. We went over to the newly opened Microsoft Store in Burlington, Massachusetts  to get an inside look.

The controller feels different, and yet, similar enough to the Xbox 360. It is tailor made for the hand, everything from the triggers to the D-pad is greatly improved and optimized. Not only is it functionally augmented, the new controller is aesthetically pleasing.

A controller is nice and all, but what good is it without a game? Killer Instinct was available to play and it was spectacular. Four of the six announced characters were playable, Chief Thunder, Glacius, Sabrewulf, and Jago. Just about anyone can enjoy this game, from fighting novice to master. It allows for a fun “button mashing” experience but getting a 39-hit combo was the real highlight of the day. Combat can feel different depending on the character. Chief Thunder could hit hard and some serious weight was behind him, but Sabrewulf is a fast paced monster. Environments and characters were gloriously detailed and animations were near perfect. While this may not be Microsoft’s next “Killer App”, it was truly a phenomenal experience.

Getting hands on with both the controller and Killer Instinct can give us an idea of what the future will hold for the Xbox One, and it looks to be very bright!
