In a world of day one patches and excessive DLC practices, it’s always nice to see developers enhancing their games with free content updates. This War of Mine, 11bit Studios’ harrowing tale of refugee life and my personal game of the year, is getting such an update.
Update 1.2 allows players to choose their starting group of characters, rather than relying on random rolls, and also introduces a new shelter, complete with a tree-house of all things. From the developer:
The first big thing is a brand new shelter. From now on, each time you begin your story, you’ll have a chance to start in this new building. The second new feature is the ability to choose your starting group of characters. You will have bigger influence on shaping the story of civilians in war, making it more challenging or putting the game into a totally new perspective. Please keep in mind that you have to play at least once to unlock this option.
Update 1.2 also provides additional fixes:
- Enhanced locations
- Improved animations
- Improved NPC behaviour
- Bug fixes
